My friend, the absolute heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk, visited the National Guardsmen who are undergoing rehabilitation there. He responded to my invitation to come to the military—to support, inspire, and personally express gratitude to everyone who stands and will stand the line.
The presence of a person who has reached the highest peaks in sports but does not stand aside from the war is a powerful testimony for our soldiers: their struggle matters, and support is nearby. Such meetings strengthen morale, add strength, and provide a sense of true solidarity.
His humanity and openness moved even the most restrained. A conversation with a strong-willed Ukrainian who knows what struggle and exhausting work are truly inspires. We spoke with servicemen recovering their strength after combat operations. In each of them—impressive resilience and character. This was felt in the questions they asked the champion and in the personal stories they shared.
There was a lot of sincerity, even humor—despite the difficult experiences. Oleksandr listened attentively, supported, and shared his life principles that help him achieve victory. He thanked them for their service and wished for a swift recovery.
I am grateful to Oleksandr for sharing the unbreakable spirit of a winner. This meeting proves that the strength of Ukraine lies in the unity of its people," Vashchuk wrote on his Facebook page.
