The story of Grimsby’s sensational victory over Manchester United in the 1/32 finals of the League Cup had its continuation.
According to The Athletic, it became clear after the match that Grimsby violated the tournament regulations by putting a player on the field who was not officially registered for this match. This concerns Clark Oduor — he came on as a substitute in the 73rd minute of the match.
According to the source, Grimsby did not manage to register Oduor for the match against United, as they sent a request for his registration one minute after the deadline. Therefore, the player was not allowed to even be on the bench.
It is known that under such circumstances, according to the regulations, Grimsby should have received a technical defeat (0:2) and been eliminated from the tournament. However, Manchester United decided not to file an appeal and not to demand the annulment of the final score.
As a result, Grimsby, having received a fine of 20 thousand pounds, will be able to continue participating in the tournament.
