The beginning of September was very eventful for the younger national teams of Ukraine. The youth national team started its new qualifying campaign (for Euro-2027), and teams U-19, U-18, and U-17 participated in international tournaments. Representatives of 11 UPL clubs played in these matches.
Photo: UAFThe youth national team of Ukraine underwent a generational change (players born in 2002-2003 concluded their performances at this level due to age) and, with a radically updated squad, won the opening match of the Euro-2027 qualifying (U-21) against the Lithuanian team on their home ground — 4:0. Two goals were scored by players from UPL clubs — Serhii Korniichuk (“Polissia”) and Ramik Hajiiev (“Metalist 1925”), while two others were scored by foreign players.
After that, Unai Melgosa’s team held a friendly match, but not against a national team, rather against the Polish club “Watra,” which is not counted in the official statistics. In this match with “Watra” (our national team won — 4:0), several footballers from UPL clubs played, whom the coaching staff did not involve in the match against Lithuania for various reasons: Ivan Pakhuliuk (“Koloss”), Andrii Kitela (“Rukh”), Mykola Kiryichok, Artur Shakh (both — “Karpaty”).
The U-19 national team of Ukraine (coach — Dmytro Mykhailenko) participated in an international tournament in Spain, where they gained significant experience in matches against England (0:2), the Netherlands (1:3), and Spain (1:3).
The U-18 national team of Ukraine (coach — Volodymyr Samborskyi) at the tournament in Sweden defeated Norway (6:1) and Sweden (2:0) but lost to Denmark (0:3).
And the U-17 national team of Ukraine (coach — Oleksandr Sityk) faced older opponents in Croatia in the U-18 category: losing to Qatar (1:2), drawing with Poland (2:2), and losing to the UAE (0:3).
