Journalist and commentator Viktor Vatsko spoke about whether the coaching staff of the Ukraine national team will be dismissed after gaining one point from six in the September qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Viktor Vatsko— I don’t believe that Rebrov will resign as long as there are mathematical chances to qualify for the World Cup. Likewise, I don’t believe that Shevchenko will dismiss him under these conditions. But when I think about who could replace Rebrov, I start to feel anxious. Because I simply cannot imagine who could become the next head coach of the Ukraine national team. It scares me to think that I am starting to lose faith in the national team as a collective capable of serious achievements and quality football.
I catch myself thinking that under Serhiy Rebrov, the Ukraine national team demonstrated quality play only episodically: in the second half against Slovakia at the Euro, in the second half of the away match against the Czech Republic in the Nations League, in the first half away to Albania, and in the second half of the home match against Belgium. That’s all. In more than two years, this looks very modest. I’m not even talking about the integrity of the game.
I can’t say that I want to see a foreigner at the head of the national team, but among Ukrainian coaches, the choice seems extremely limited. In my opinion, UAF must seriously address the issue of training coaching staff, ” Vatsko said on his YouTube channel.
