Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently spoke about a match between the national teams of Russia and the USA. The US Soccer Federation reacted to the statement of the sanctioned politician.
The fake statement was made by Lavrov, who on Monday, September 8, told local media that FIFA plans to organize a friendly match between Russia and the USA as preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
“I know that in some circles, including the leadership of FIFA, the possibility of holding a football match between the host countries of the 2018 and 2026 World Cups is being discussed. Previously, we had traditions of hockey tours with each other, and there is great interest in this,” Lavrov boasted.
One of the Russian sports portals decided to verify the statement of the deceitful minister and reached out for clarification from the US Soccer Federation (US Soccer). The organization’s response was unequivocal.
“We are not in negotiations with Russia regarding holding any matches for the national team,” US Soccer replied.
