The Romanian Football Federation has decided not to dismiss the national team’s head coach Mircea Lucescu for now, Golazo reports.
Mircea LucescuRecall that the chair of the 80-year-old specialist became shaky after the draw with Cyprus (2:2) in the qualifying tournament for the 2026 World Cup. According to the source, the parties have come to a mutual understanding about the next steps: Lucescu is expected to present a detailed report to the president of the Federation, Răzvan Burleanu, about the situation with the Romanian national team and how he envisions the solution to the task of qualifying for the final part of the 2026 World Cup.
Additionally, in five matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifying, Romania has only gained 7 points (2 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses) and now trails the leading Austria and Bosnia and Herzegovina by 5 points in its group.
