Couldn’t leave Brazil: former Shakhtar leader left without a club due to legal issues

The Sydney Football Club terminated the contract with former Donetsk Shakhtar player Douglas Costa, who is unable to join the team.

According to the official website of the Australian club, the reason for this move was the legal problems of the 35-year-old winger. The veteran could not arrive in Australia as he has no means to leave Brazil.

According to Globo Esporte, a local court issued a warrant for the arrest of Douglas Costa in a case concerning unpaid child support. The amount in question is €78,500. The warrant will be valid for 2 years, and the player informed the club that he currently does not see any way to quickly resolve the situation and will not be able to fly to Australia.

Douglas Costa has played for Shakhtar, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Grêmio, Los Angeles, and Fluminense.
