On Tuesday, September 23, a meeting took place in New York where FIFA President Gianni Infantino met with CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez and representatives of South American football federations.
According to ESPN, the meeting discussed the expansion of the number of participants in the World Cup starting from 2030. This involves 64 national teams that will be able to participate in the final round of the tournament.
Interestingly, the increase in the number of participants in the 2030 World Cup to 64 teams guarantees all CONMEBOL representatives a spot in the tournament. For the first time, the hosts of the competition will be countries from different continents: Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
Recall that 48 teams will participate in the final round of the 2026 World Cup.
