Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike marked the year with the most absurd red card.

The Frenchman decided to celebrate his goal by taking off his shirt but forgot that he had already received his first yellow card in the 53rd minute for arguing with the main referee. Consequently, the referee showed the forward a second yellow card, which automatically became a red one. Moreover, Ekitike will now miss the next Premier League match against Crystal Palace.
As a result, Liverpool managed to hold on to the winning score and advanced to the next round of the tournament.
