The legendary forward of Kyiv’s Dynamo, Oleg Blokhin, spoke about how he made the decision to leave the position of head coach of the Ukrainian national team and take charge of the «white-blues».
Oleg Blokhin"Everyone says: “Look, he left the national team.” What sense does it make for me to leave the national team if we drew 1:1 with England in the World Cup 2014 qualifiers? Then the matches against Montenegro and Moldova. I knew we would take another six points here. It was my dream, the dream of my parents — to coach Kyiv’s Dynamo. I am a Kyivite, I have been in Dynamo since I was 11. How could I refuse such an offer? Maybe I won’t be invited again later.
I am an honest person and have never hidden this. I personally went to the president of the UAF, Konkov, and said that I was offered to take over Dynamo, so I want to leave the national team. What didn’t work out for me at Dynamo — that’s coaching work. You are either on top, or you are at the bottom. Yes, I was given a task, I didn’t fulfill it — no questions,” said Blokhin in an interview on Igor Tsyganyk’s YouTube channel.
