The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced on its official website the suspension of seven players from the Malaysian national team for 12 months. They were also fined $2,100 each.

The punished players are: defender Facundo Garcés (“Alaves”), Gabriel Palermo (“Unionistas”), Rodrigo Olgado (“America”), Imanol Machuca (“Velez”), Joao Figueredo (“Johor”), Yon Irasabal (“Johor”), and Hector Hevel (“Johor”).
All listed footballers participated in the Asian Cup qualifying match against Vietnam on June 10 using forged citizenship documents.
