The International Football Federation (FIFA) intends to change the rules regarding the execution of penalties, reports Bild.

According to the source, players may be prohibited from following up on the ball after a penalty kick if the goalkeeper saves the shot from the «spot»: if the goalkeeper deflects the ball, this will lead to a goal kick. However, it is not specified what will happen if the ball hits the goalpost.

It is possible that the new rule will come into effect as early as the 2026/27 season. But first, it must be approved by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). According to Bild, this organization has already rejected the proposed rule after preliminary consultations with clubs and associations.
