Famous coach Oleg Dulub commented on Dynamo’s loss in the Conference League match against Crystal Palace (0:2).
Oleg Dulub— How did you find the first 30 minutes by Dynamo before the substitution of Mykhavko? Can they be noted in a positive light?
— The selection of the lineup and tactics really suited the formation of Palace. Perhaps due to this, Dynamo played quite well in the first 30 minutes until they conceded a goal.
— Do you consider the delay in replacing Mykhavko a turning point?
— Probably so. They played with ten men for almost 10 minutes. But it’s still an unfortunate incident because the situation with Taras was hard to predict. Such an injury... A fall, it needed a quick response.
Ten minutes without a center-back — and the ball was conceded when there were not three center-backs but two on the diagonal. If everyone had been on the field, one of the central defenders would have played the ball at the far post. Tiara or Mykhavko — but it turned out that Dubinchak, who lost both in height and position.
When it was 0:1 — a different story begins. But until the goal, in terms of athleticism and speed, Dynamo did not lose that period.
— A question for you as a coach — how quickly could the coaching staff react in the situation with Mykhavko?
— This is considered an unfortunate incident. Usually, substitutes start warming up from the 30th minute, and here the moment happened earlier. But since such a situation occurred, and he was still moving on the field for another 2−3 minutes, a defender should have been prepared already. Those 10 minutes for the substitution are very long. The game was even, and when they were one down, Palace capitalized on the numerical advantage.
After the goal, Shovkovskyi made another decision, which was also interesting — not a defender for a defender, but Voloshin, which caused Dubinchak to drop a little lower.
