Manchester City defender John Stones spoke about his desire to retire last season.

“Last season was hard for me — so much so that I thought about quitting. I didn’t want to do that, but I was fed up with being a professional and trying to do everything right while continuing to get injured and not getting any answers. It was very difficult.
It got to the point where you don’t understand why it’s happening, and that made the situation even more complicated because you’re putting in so much effort and acting like an ultra-professional to be available and play.
When something happens, it’s always easier when you can say, 'This happened because I didn’t do X, Y, and Z.' Otherwise, it becomes a psychological challenge. I hope I don’t go back to that,” Stones was quoted by the BBC.
