Former defender of Dynamo and the Ukraine national team Oleh Luzhny shared his memories of the principled confrontation with the Russians in Moscow in a comment to Channel 24.
Oleh Luzhny (left; photo: uaf.ua)— There was a very large excitement before this match, because for the first time in history, Ukraine and Russia were meeting. It was a very principled game in the Euro Championship qualification. Prior to this, we won at home (3:2 — ed.) and the most important thing was not to lose in Moscow — a draw was sufficient for us.
Before the match, the emotions were the same — everyone was focused, complete concentration. Each player prepares in their own way since the responsibility was very high. A mistake could lead to defeat. After the game, what emotions could there be when we played against Russia? We advanced further and never lost. They broke the windows of our bus when we were heading to the airport. We closed the curtains to prevent stones from flying in, — Oleh Romanovych recounted.
