Athens «Panathinaikos» is very close to signing a contract with the famous Spanish coach Rafael Benitez.

Benitez arrived in Athens on a private flight on Monday night to discuss the final terms of the contract with club president Yiannis Alafouzos. The coach is expected to sign a 2.5-year agreement with a salary of about 5 million euros per year — one of the largest in the history of Greek football.

Rafa Benitez is one of Europe’s most decorated specialists: he has worked with «Liverpool», «Real Madrid», «Chelsea», «Inter», and «Valencia». In 2005, he won the Champions League with «Liverpool», twice became the champion of Spain with «Valencia» and raised the UEFA Cup. In 2013, he also won the Europa League with «Chelsea».
