The defender of Kyiv’s «Dynamo» youth team Maksym Korobov summed up the results of yesterday’s youth championship match with «Zorya U-19» (0:0).
Maksym Korobov— The impressions after the game, to be honest, are not very good. The draw result upset us because we are losing points again, and this does not add anything positive. What didn’t work out? Probably, it’s hard to say exactly. Perhaps a lack of focus, there were many technical mistakes at certain moments: some didn’t run enough, others didn’t want it enough. It’s these small moments that make up the game. The coach is, of course, also not satisfied. It’s only the ninth round, and we’ve already lost so many points, which is not very good.
— «Dynamo» had many chances in both the first and second halves. Was it a lack of execution or just bad luck?
— Execution, of course, let us down, but if there is not 100% focus and desire, the balls won’t just fly into the net. To score goals, you need to fully motivate yourself. Even in front of an empty net, you might not score if there’s not 100% desire.
— Specifically, you had several good moments, hitting the crossbar, several promising free kicks. Were you very upset that you couldn’t score?
— Of course, I was upset, but the team’s victory is paramount for me. Even if someone else had scored, I would have been happy for the team. Didn’t score — so be it, the main thing is that someone, at least, scores. Unfortunately, today no one could do that.
— Are you the regular set-piece taker for the team? After all, you take free kicks quite often...
— I train long-range shots a little, trying to hit the target, score myself, or make it so that the goalkeeper parries the ball, and someone else finishes it. If there is an opportunity, I try to take it.
— Did «Zorya» surprise you? How well did you analyze this opponent? Was there any underestimation or lack of focus?
— The opponent was analyzed very thoroughly. It is indeed a good team. We had 18 points, they had 16, close together in the standings. We prepared, set ourselves up, but perhaps some players lacked focus. These are exclusively individual moments.
— Your next match is in the UEFA Youth League against Sweden’s «Brommapojkarna». Have you thought about it yet? What do you expect?
— I was primarily thinking about today’s game first, because it’s too early to talk about the next one if the current game isn’t finished. The opponent is good, the team is the champion of their championship. We will strive to win and advance.
