The famous Ukrainian coach Myron Markevych shared his prediction for the main round match of the Conference League between Samsunspor and Dynamo.
Myron Markevych— Myron Bohdanovych, the problems for the national giant continue. In the championship, Dynamo can’t win five matches in a row. What should be done?
— I don’t know what’s happening with the team that plays in the first half and concedes in the second. Of course, it’s up to the coaches, but especially the players, to figure out the situation. Indeed, this unsuccessful streak for Kyiv has dragged on. However, the European cup history is a different story. We need to try to take mistakes into account because at stake is not only the club’s image but all of Ukraine.
— From your coaching experience, can you suggest why the «blue-whites» have such gameplay and results?
— From the outside, it looks like a friendly team, but still, in my opinion, something is wrong within the group. I think full trust should be given to the coach, as he is responsible for the outcome. If someone is fanning the flames or not pulling their weight, such a player should be removed from the first team because if the crisis drags on, it will be even worse. But again, these are just my assumptions. Last year in the championship it was fine, Dynamo became the champion, and now something is broken.
— Would a change of the head coach solve the situation?
— I don’t think so. There is club management, they probably know more. A change of coach, in my opinion, would not have a significant impact.
— Problems aside, but tomorrow the Dynamo team has an important game in the Conference League. What are your expectations?
— I’m not very familiar with Samsunspor, but I can say that the level of the Turkish championship leaves much to be desired. There, it’s mostly foreign players who go there to earn before ending their careers. Therefore, there’s no need to be afraid of the opponent. I’m confident we can play and win against them. If the Dynamo players have character and their functional readiness allows, they just need to press their opponents, not letting them play freely; they will make mistakes themselves.
— Getting a draw wouldn’t be bad?
— In Turkey, you need to play with full energy. Because the way Dynamo plays in the championship won’t work in Europe. Go out and prove that you’re worth something. As for the final result, my opinion is clear — you need to play only for victory. Kyiv has fast players, so something might work in counterplay. I performed in Turkey with my teams. And if you play them tough, they become tame. This is not Crystal Palace; I expect the maximum result from Dynamo.
