Former Dynamo Kyiv forward Victor Khlus spoke about the situation involving another former Dynamo player, Ivan Yaremchuk, who was recently arrested by Polish police.
Victor Khlus— I am, of course, aware of this situation. I have no direct contact with Ivan because the police have confiscated his phones. Who knows, maybe he is somehow in touch with his niece, who, like his brother Mikhail, also lives abroad. I don’t know... However, I do have communication with his friends, who are also abroad. I maintain this contact constantly because the fate of our compatriot and colleague in the profession is not indifferent to me, as it is to many Ukrainians.
— What do you know about him?
— I know that he was flying from Poland to Prague, and that’s where he was detained at the airport.
— For what reason?
— The real reason is only a guess, but any charge requires evidence. As of now, I know nothing about it. I only know that some time after the start of the full-scale war, Ivan went to Germany, where former Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleksandr Onyshchenko, lives. However, he was there briefly and went to the Czech Republic. In that country, as far as I know, Yaremchuk lived for about a year and a half, and then ended up in Belgium. He settled in a hotel in a village near Antwerp.
It is possible that there could have been some reason that led to him being on the violation register. In Europe, these matters are clear, but everything is resolved very slowly. As some acquaintances who know the current nuances of living abroad have told me, in the European Union, a red flag mark is placed in the passport — and if it is there, the police detain the person.
— When was the last time you contacted Ivan Yaremchuk?
— Not long ago. About a month ago, he called me several times a day. He called me especially often before his trips to the matches of the Ukrainian national team or Dynamo Kyiv to find out about the possibility of getting a ticket. We haven’t communicated since, and I’ve now learned of his arrest. I hope everything will be resolved.
