France national team forward Hugo Ekitike commented in an exclusive interview with Dynamo.kiev.ua on his national team’s victory in the 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Ukraine (4:0), in which he scored one of the goals.
Hugo Ekitike— What do you think about the Ukrainian team’s performance today? It seemed that this match went quite easily for your team.
— The first half was actually quite tough. Ukraine posed serious challenges to us — they pressed high, maintained a compact block, and it was difficult for us to penetrate their defense. In the second half, the Ukrainians got a bit tired, and we were able to create several quality chances and score. But nonetheless, they are a very qualified, well-organized team, and the match was certainly not easy.
— From the stands, your goal seemed quite easy, and the Ukrainian players said they were already tired and couldn’t keep up with your speed. How would you describe your goal?
— I received the ball, saw open space in front of me, and decided to break through. It was a good moment, and I’m pleased I was able to capitalize on it. But it’s not just my achievement — the team did a tremendous job putting me in that position.
— What would you like to wish for the Ukrainian fans?
— I know how difficult the situation is in Ukraine right now, so I want to wish all the best to the Ukrainians. You have a wonderful team.
