On Sunday, November 16, in the final, 6th round match of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup qualifying tournament, the Ukrainian national team defeated the Icelandic team 2:0 and, securing second place in Group 'D', earned a spot in the playoffs for a chance to advance to the final part of the World Cup. The match was nominally a home game for the Ukrainian national team, but due to the war, it took place in Warsaw at the Legia Stadium.
