The author of the first goal in the history of the Ukrainian national team, Ivan Hetsko, assured that our country’s main team is expecting a tough match against Sweden.
Ivan Hetsko— In the playoff semifinals, Ukraine will play against Sweden. Will it be a tough game?
— I think it’s a tough opponent. We could have drawn someone a little weaker (laughs). Well, but both teams have equal chances. I think there are no easy matches in playoffs. So we need to prepare and prove to everyone that the Ukrainian national team should play in the World Cup.
— The Swedes have two strong forwards —Isak from Liverpool and Djokeresh from Arsenal. Will it be difficult for our defenders?
— Yes, it will be tough. That’s why I’m saying there could’ve been an easier team, but that’s football, as they say. We need to play, win, and prove ourselves.
— The Swedes flopped in the qualifiers and reached the playoffs through the Nations League. Will this play to our advantage?
— I don’t think so. I believe Ukrainian footballers should clearly understand that the Swedes will throw everything into the fight. They have nothing to lose, they have a chance, and they will fight for it. And we have to prove to everyone that we can advance and play in the World Cup.
— In case of victory over Sweden, we will face either Poland or Albania next.
— These opponents are also very challenging. We can see how Albania looks now. It might even be a bit easier to play against Poland, but I wouldn’t emphasize that. These are two solid teams with the goal of reaching the World Cup.
