After another United attack, Liverpool club defender Michael Keane expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of his teammate Idrissa Gueye. The players began to argue right on the field, resulting in Keane being slapped by Gueye. The main referee of the match, Tony Harrington, immediately reacted to the conflict and showed the Senegalese midfielder a straight red card.
In the next few minutes, other Everton players had to almost forcibly make Gueye leave the field, as the midfielder wanted to continue sorting things out with Keane.
