General manager of Bucharest’s 'Steaua' (officially known as FCSB) Mihai Stoica, discussing the upcoming match of his club with Belgrade’s 'Crvena Zvezda' in the 5th round of the main stage of the Europa League, compared this Serbian representative with Kyiv’s 'Dynamo' and Donetsk’s 'Shakhtar'.
Mihai Stoica— What 'Crvena Zvezda' has now in terms of financial backing, no one else had in Eastern Europe, except for Kyiv’s 'Dynamo' and Donetsk’s 'Shakhtar'. Even in Hungary, no one could have such money, in Poland too. No club, including Czech clubs like 'Sparta' and 'Slavia', reached that level.
They buy players for 5 million euros, buy as much as they want, and pay them salaries of 2.5 million euros a year. Clearly, in this regard, they are on another level.
But, on the other hand, without competition in the squad, 'Crvena Zvezda' started experiencing problems. They were knocked out of the Champions League qualification by 'Pafos', which didn’t buy a single player — all their newcomers joined the club for free as free agents. And in the last league round, 'Zvezda' was defeated by 'Javor',” said Stoica on the air of 'Prima Sport'.
