Former midfielder of Dynamo Kyiv, Andriy Bogdanov, assessed the actions of his former team players in yesterday’s match of the 4th round of the main stage of the Conference League against Cyprus’s Omonia (0:2).
Andriy Bogdanov— Mr. Andriy, how do you find «Dynamo’s» game against «Omonia»?
— In short, it’s terrible.
— And not in short?
— We can see that there are no tactical changes. It’s hard to say anything when you’re not inside the team, but... It is noticeable how the players are playing without emotions. «Omonia» won absolutely deservedly, although it’s not to say this is a strong team...
«Dynamo» should beat such teams, but not the current «Dynamo», of course.
— What are the reasons for the defeat?
— There’s no game, no aggression. The defense is a horror. Well, it’s just a horror! Constant defender mistakes. The attacking line... In the third zone, the players can’t effectively beat opponents, only maintaining possession. «Dynamo» is struggling in all lines. I think all the fans can see that.
— The first goal for the Kyivans was conceded after a penalty that was practically «gifted» by Denys Popov. Did you see any grounds for Popov to foul in that episode?
— There were no grounds. But he fouled. The worst part is this is not the first such mistake by Popov this season. In previous seasons, he also often made mistakes. Yet, he constantly plays in the starting lineup. Well, his performance satisfies the coaching staff, apparently.
— Speaking of the second goal against «Dynamo,» who is most to blame for it?
— Dubinchak couldn’t keep up with the player, and the pass went behind Mikhevko, allowing the opponent to score with a one-touch effort... The entire defense line collapsed here. And they barely reacted on the rebound.
Performance Ratings for «Dynamo» players
Ruslan Neshcheret — 5.0
— He didn’t save the team in the two conceded goals. There was also a mistake at the end of the game which could have led to a third goal. So, one could say that Neshcheret had a rather mediocre match.
Taras Mikhevko — 4.0
— Mikhevko was not very active in the left-back position, even though this role requires high activity both in front and at the back. While playing the central defender position, a goal was scored from under him. Overall, there’s nothing to talk about. «Dynamo’s» defense line traditionally plays very weakly.
Aliu Tiare — 4.0
— He tries to play vertically, yet I don’t recall any precise long pass from him (only one out of six long passes were made by Tiare, — ed.). Many errors and positional mistakes. He can kick the ball anywhere, say, out of bounds. It seemed like Tiare doesn’t know how to initiate attacks.
Denys Popov — no grade
— I repeat, from game to game he makes the same mistakes and unwise decisions. Popov practically «gifted» the first goal, even though there was no need to foul in that situation. It’s just horrible! I don’t even want to give him a grade. Furthermore, he was substituted at halftime.
Oleksandr Karavaev — 5.0
— «Dynamo» had no leader on the field, despite Karavaev coming out with the captain’s armband. He was not particularly active, nor did he make major mistakes. In the first half, he delivered a decent cross, but it led to nothing. That’s all.
Mykola Mykhailenko — 5.0
— A pale and rather unremarkable game. He didn’t make serious mistakes, but there’s nothing positive to highlight either.
Valentyn Rubchynsky — 5.0
— We are not inside the team to understand the logic behind the coaching staff’s decision to put Rubchynsky in the starting lineup. But judging by this game, Rubchynsky did nothing but run. I can’t recall any useful or interesting actions from him.
Oleksandr Pikhalyonok — 7.0
— Pikhalyonok could be called the only bright spot for «Dynamo» in this game. The only player who tried to create and intensify the action. Yes, something didn’t work out somewhere, but he certainly wasn’t indifferent. And there are questions for his teammates — they didn’t particularly support him.
Shola Ogundanya — 3.0
— Non-existent. He simply wasn’t on the field. You could say Shola simply didn’t appear for the game. He touched the ball a minimal number of times (20 touches in 63 minutes — ed.). And when he did get the ball, nothing dangerous came of it.
Vladyslav Kabaiev — 5.0
— Yes, there was that one decent shot from him, and that was it. How can you create moments if the attacking players don’t dribble, don’t want to take the initiative? I don’t understand why the wingers are constantly playing to keep possession? That’s exactly why there are no dribbles, no sharpness, no moments, and no goals.
Nazar Voloshyn — 5.0
— How about Voloshyn in the leading attack? Not good at all. Did he even have moments? Yes, he took shots, but nothing dangerous resulted. I understand that a central striker is a dependent player, but he also didn’t try to take initiative, just turned and kept the ball.
«Dynamo needs to figure itself out»
— According to calculations, to get into the playoffs of the Conference League, teams need to earn seven to eight points. Kyiv has three now, and ahead are matches against «Fiorentina» and «Noa.» Do you believe that «Dynamo» can take points from the Italian club to contend for the European spring?
— I don’t like to make predictions, but let’s be realistic. Yes, «Fiorentina» has never won in Serie A this season, they are at the bottom of the standings, but the Conference League is a different tournament where they still earn points and outclass us.
«Dynamo» needs to figure itself out. Moreover, there are many injured players on the team now, and there’s no Andriy Yarmolenko, the real team leader. It’s hard to say anything, but this can’t continue.
— Do you see any solution that could help «Dynamo» get out of this crisis situation?
— Yes — the winter break. By then, the club’s owners and management have time to think and decide on something. Everyone sees everything. It’s apparent on the face. But in «Dynamo,» everything is decided by the club owner, who takes the decision on who will coach the first team. Changes are looming — everyone understands it (two hours after this conversation, the management of «Dynamo» fired Shovkovskyi and his staff — ed.).…
