The VAB armored personnel carrier, capable of accelerating to 110 km/h, is a joint development by the state order of the French automobile companies Renault and Saviem. Such vehicles have been in service with the French army since 1976. Since then, the VAB armored personnel carrier has been put into service in sixteen countries.
The exact number of VABs that Ukraine should receive was not mentioned anywhere, but French Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecornu stated in one of his speeches that Ukraine would receive "a large batch of VAB armored personnel carriers."
