Belgian fans are surprised by the transfer of Ukrainian striker Roman Yaremchuk to Club Brugge. On the one hand, the current national champion has been following the striker for a long time and even tried to buy him when Yaremchuk played for Gent, but then Roman chose the option with Benfica. Just in the past year, a lot has changed. Now Brugge has a new coaching staff, in the summer the talented Yutgla and experienced Larin were invited to attack.

But these are all details. What surprised Club Brugge fans the most was that the club paid 16 million euros, a record purchase for a Belgian team. But the amount of the transfer can increase to 19 million under certain conditions. Club Brugge fans don't understand why the club paid so much money for a player who failed at Benfica.

Roman Yaremchuk during the autograph session "Bruges"

Vanhoef: Too much money for this player. Yaremchuk is not the player for whom it was necessary to update the transfer record. Especially after a disastrous season at Benfica, where he lost the competition to everyone who could.

Gaelens: Yaremchuk is a good striker, he proved his class in matches for Gent. I am pleased that we bought it, but the amount of the transfer raises many questions. As far as I understand, in the end, Yaremchuk will cost Brugge 19 million euros. It's too expensive.

Sacramento: Usually, after a bad season, the price per player drops. And sometimes it drops a lot. But in our case, everything somehow went wrong. If Benfica bought Yaremchuk for 20 million and sold it for 19, then in fact we pay the same amount. But Yaremchuk played little in Benfica and scored even less often. The club wanted to get rid of him, but we couldn't even bargain normally.

Yoran: The problem is not that we paid 19 million euros for some player and updated the transfer record. The problem is that this player is then unlikely to be sold to another club for a large amount. We will not be able to resell Yaremchuk for various reasons. Mainly because of his age. And also because he could not play in another championship.

Mender: Yaremchuk did not want to move to Brugge last summer, as he considered this option not good enough for him. As a result, he chooses Benfica, failed there, and now, as if nothing had happened, he still moves to Brugge? Don't club management have self-respect? This guy didn't want to play for our team. Let him continue to sit on the bench at Benfica.

gupster: For 19 million euros, you could buy a really cool striker. Yaremchuk? I'm sorry, but this guy isn't worth that much. Just look at his statistics at Benfica.

Jasper: A good player, he has already shown that Belgium is his championship. But I don't think that someone else would agree to pay 20 million for such a striker. Obviously, we paid an extra 5-7 million. And this means that we simply did not have a fallback option.

Arne: I don't think it was worth rushing to buy Yaremchuk. It is obvious that he failed at Benfica and every month the price for him would fall. I think that in winter we could buy Yaremchuk for 7-8 million euros. Now the Ukrainian needs to score in every match to justify this transfer.

Mestdagh: Club Brugge bought Utglu from Barcelona for 5 million euros. And this striker has already proved his high class, scoring goals in almost all matches. Therefore, it is foolish to say that Yaremchuk is worth 20 million euros, especially after he was unable to play for Benfica.

Wout: The problem is not even that we paid almost 20 million euros for Yaremchuk. Something else surprises me: Brugge abandons its transfer policy. The club developed due to the fact that we bought cheap and then sold expensive. And the emphasis was on young players. I would understand somewhere else if Yaremchuk was 20 years old and his whole career would be ahead of him. Then we could potentially sell it in 2-3 years already for 35 million euros, for example. But Yaremchuk is at the peak of his form at best. It won't cost more.

Jarne: Yaremchuk showed himself very well in Gent, scored a lot of goals, gave a lot of assists. I think that he will play at the same level in Brugge, or even better. And money is none of our business. We paid 20 million euros, which means we can afford it.

Verwilst: Yaremchuk has long adapted to Belgium, this is already a big plus. I think that he will be able to score goals from the very first matches. In addition, we lack an experienced forward for the team. Still, Yaremchuk has a lot of experience, including at the level of the Ukrainian national team. If you do not pay attention to the amount of the transfer, then in general this transition causes positive emotions.

Norbert: Last year we refused to pay 15 million euros for Yaremchuk. The club said that it was too much for a striker of this level. What has changed this year? Is Yaremchuk playing much better now? Was he able to force Nunez out of the Benfica base and score a lot of goals? It annoys me that in recent years there is no logic in the actions of the club's management.

Shivs: I think that Yaremchuk is an investment in the future. It's like buying Mignolet. You won’t be able to resell the player later, but at the same time, he will play an important role in the team, bring it a lot of benefits and help win the championship, which means it will help you get into the Champions League. From this point of view, everything is clear with the purchase of Yaremchuk. We won’t be able to sell him profitably, but he will help Brugge earn a lot of money.

Esnault: The Portuguese league is at least no stronger than the Belgian. There are Benfica, Porto, Sporting and, to some extent, Braga. Everything. All other clubs are very weak. Therefore, Yaremchuk's 6 goals in Primeira is a failure. This is not the Premier League, not La Liga, not Serie A. If you cannot score many goals in Portugal, then you are a weak forward.

franky: Sorry, but in fact, Yaremchuk did not show outstanding football even in Gent. He has one very good season and one relatively good one. Everything. I don't understand why everyone decided that this is an outstanding striker who will score a lot of goals for Club Brugge?

Vankeir: For such a huge amount of money, Yaremchuk must score two goals in each match, work as a lawn mower, cleaner, cook, bus driver and salesman in a club shop.

Kamal: And I have certain concerns. When Yaremchuk played for Gent, they said that he had a difficult character, and he often quarreled with coaches. He had a similar story in Benfica. In addition, Gent immediately after the departure of Yaremchuk won the Belgian Cup, and before that it was the champion of the country. Benfica also failed with a Ukrainian in the squad. Somehow he is unlucky.

Demuyn: I do not share the general sentiment towards Yaremchuk. This is a high level forward. Like any talented player, he is a little moody and highly dependent on his mood. If Club Brugge use him correctly, he will score a lot of goals.

Senne: Yaremchuk wants to finally win the championship. He achieved nothing with Gent, achieved nothing with Benfica... Club Brugge is his last chance to win any title. Therefore, let him try to prove himself, let him score goals. But Yaremchuk must also understand that very high demands will be placed on him. If you have updated the club's transfer record, you must comply with this.
