Ex-midfielder of Dynamo Kyiv Serhiy Kovalets shared his impressions of the match of his former team against Turkish Fenerbahce (1:2) in the 1st round of the Europa League group stage, which took place last Thursday in Istanbul.
“It turned out to be a tough, sometimes rough game. It is clear that the Fenerbahce players were eager to take revenge on Dynamo for the defeat in the Champions League qualification.
The great advantage of the Turkish team was to support the stands, which Ukrainian teams do not have now.
And I somehow agree with the Kiev mentor Mircea Lucescu that it is difficult for his wards, because they have to make many moves, the players do not see their families ... Psychological fatigue is accumulating.
The quality of the game of both teams left much to be desired. And, to be honest, this game should have ended in a draw. Yes, Jorge Jesus' wards had more possession of the ball, but they had practically no scoring chances.
Dynamo will not be easy now after five defeats in a row, but I am sure that such an experienced coach as Mircea Lucescu will be able to find a way out. It is important that this is only the start of the group stage of the Europa League, like the Ukrainian championship, so everything can still be fixed.
In Turkey, the players of Dynamo could not refuse the desire, however, they lacked the skill in completing attacks, as well as the reliability in defense.
There is nothing to be done, but now there is no time to be bored - you need to switch to the championship. And again, changes in the quality of the game and improvement in the results of the Kiev team largely depend on how quickly the coaching staff will make the necessary adjustments," said Kovalets.
