FIFA has dismissed appeals by the Chilean and Peruvian football associations alleging that 23-year-old Ecuadorian defender Byron Castillo had forged documents. However, the appeal committee did not find any violations on the part of Ecuador, so this team retains a ticket to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
At the group stage, the Ecuadorians will play in Quartet A, where they will face the teams of the Netherlands, Qatar and Senegal.
