The well-known Ukrainian journalist and commentator Ihor Tsyganyk commented on the appointment of Roberto De Derby as the head coach of Brighton on the air of the Tsyganyk Live program.

"De Dzerby's behavior in Ukraine required serious condemnation. A lot of aggression, everything is planned for provocation. He declared to everyone that he came to teach everyone to play football and did not hide it. I did not see a particular perspective from my work at Shakhtar. There were good matches, but with those players it was possible to perform much better in the Champions League. That is why I am cautious about his coaching potential.

I thought that he would still stay in Shakhtar and money was the main thing for him. I think he would have stayed if the championship was held abroad and all the strongest football players had come. But he was afraid to take a risk, he thought that with young Ukrainian football players he would get seven or eight goals in the Champions League and this would lower his coaching qualifications and reputation. This is something Jovicevich was not afraid of.
