Former head coach and football player of the Ukrainian national team Andriy Shevchenko spoke about the support of Ukraine during the war from the Italian Milan.
“I want to thank Fondazione Milan, Milan, as well as ordinary fans of this team participating in fundraising for supporting Ukraine during this war. This is very important, because we organized a project with the mayor's office of Milan to help Ukrainian refugees.
A few weeks ago I was in Irpin. The stadium where I went to play as a child is completely destroyed. The stands, the dressing rooms, the field - all this was destroyed due to bombing. But despite this, children were playing there. I asked the mayor of Irpin what could be done for the city. He replied: "Stadium". I asked why the stadium in particular, because schools and hospitals were destroyed. And I heard the answer: we need to give children the opportunity to play football and go in for sports, ”Shevchenko is quoted as saying by Corriere dello Sport.
