Setanta Sports commentator and journalist Ihor Boyko commented on the signing of Dutchman Justin Lonwijk by Dynamo Kyiv in his Telegram channel.
"Everything is not right with Dynamo. The club does not invite newcomers - bad. Invites - bad, because it is not quiet. The team needs new players, but the second half of September looks like a very strange time for transfers. Late response to problems.
Justin Lonwijk will not help the team in the European Cups, but the situation in the championship is such that help is urgently needed. Maybe even a save given the number of injuries and the quality of the squad in recent matches. It just so happened that I follow the Danish championship quite closely, so I can confidently speak about this football player. Lonwijk was once a great talent in the Netherlands, but found himself in Denmark, which is very close in football terms. "Vyborg" is not a top club, but according to the results of last season, it got into the Conference League, went through a couple of qualification rounds and stopped at West Ham.
Lonwijk is an interesting footballer with an understanding of the game, the ability to pass and to pass. Regarding his transfer, there is only one question: at what position is he bought in Dynamo. Lonwijk has been a central midfielder throughout his career, but since the beginning of this season he has been operating as a winger. Immediately, two of the team's main players in these positions boycotted appearances for the team and were eventually sold: Bech Christensen moved to Ingolstadt, Bakies to Aalborg.
Tall, lanky and not too explosive, the player is not well-suited to the winger position, but when it came to his work in the center of the field, there were always questions about his dynamics and efficiency in the set-piece game. Lonwijk knows how to tackle due to the ability to put his body and spread his feet, but he is definitely not a natural in this component of the game. The bottom line is that Lonwijk is stuck between positions, between roles, didn't quite make the transition from youth football to adult football, where he lacks athleticism, but showed himself very well in the Vyborg squad.
I don't know what "Dynamo" is about, but in this team I see him only in Shaparenko's position. And here with a stretch. Other needs seem more urgent, but in the center of the field, footballers are also needed, with the help of which it is possible to create moments. Although without forwards it will still be difficult to score. But "Dynamo" and strikers are a sick story lasting many years. It is not so easy to solve it. Of course, one would like to say that it would be better to buy a striker. But at least someone was hired here - and it's good," Boyko wrote.
