The head coach of the Portuguese national team, Fernando Santos, had to apologize to Thiago Gialo, forgetting that the "Lille" defender was on the bench in the match against the Czech Republic (4:0). In the 84th minute of the meeting, the coach replaced defender Danilo with midfielder Joao Mario.
"I forgot that I had Thiago Gialo in the reserve, I apologize to him. Gialo should have come out at that moment, I fully trust Gialo, but since Joao Mario was already ready to come out, I had the idea to move Pagliña to the center of defense," the 67-year-old coach was quoted as saying by Goal.
