On Monday, October 24, the youth national team of Ukraine in the U-17 age category (football players not older than 2006) began performances in the qualifying round for Euro-2023.

In the first round of Group 2, Yuri Moroz's wards met their peers from Azerbaijan, the match took place in the Bosnian city of Kakan at the Mladost stadium and ended with a score of 5:2 in favor of the "blue and yellow". The Dynamo team scored all five goals, and Matvii Ponomarenko scored four at once, and Kyrylo Osypenko scored one more.
For most of the game, the Ukrainians had the advantage, which they began to translate into goals closer to the break. First, Ponomarenko converted the penalty earned by Pashko. Later, he doubled our team's advantage.
The active Matvii played poker already in the second half. In the 59th minute, he successfully played on a corner kick, and in the 68th, he took advantage of a mistake by the opponent's goalkeeper and sent the ball into an empty net.
After that, the Ukrainians relaxed a bit and conceded two goals - Huseyin Huseynov scored with a kick over himself after a set piece, and Murad Mammadov converted a penalty.
In the 90th minute, the "blue and yellow" scored their fifth goal - shortly after coming on as a substitute, Osypenko completed the counterattack. In the time added by the referee, the Azerbaijanis hit the crossbar.
In the end, the youth national team of Ukraine started its performance at the tournament with a 5:2 victory. Our team will play their next match on October 27 against Liechtenstein.
