"It was dealt with immediately." The coach of the Polish national team explained why Lewandowski will not play at the 2022 World

Poland's national team will start the World Cup 2022 with a match against Mexico, which will be held on Tuesday, November 22. Leader Robert Lewandowski will lead the Poles to the field with the captain's armband.

Andriy Shevchenko and Robert Lewandowski

Before the World Cup, Lewandowski took part in a charity event with the participation of ex-forward of the Ukrainian national team Andriy Shevchenko. The ex-trainer of the national team handed the Polish striker the blue-yellow captain's armband, which Lewandowski agreed to take with him to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup.

Shevchenko also asked Lewandowski to wear this bandage during a match already at the World Cup in Qatar. However, a few days before the start of the tournament, the forward emphasized that he would not wear it, and that this was not discussed during the meeting with the coach of the Ukrainian national team.

The situation with Lewandowski's position was clarified by the head coach of the Polish national team, Czeslaw Michniewicz, in an exclusive comment to Suspilne Sport. The coach confirmed that Lewandowski's decision had been discussed beforehand. And he answered that he did not know about the existence of a ban from FIFA on wearing exactly the blue and yellow armband at the match.

"He [Lewandowski] will play [in the captain's armband in the colors of] Poland. It was decided right away what to do with such a bandage. Robert told Shevchenko that he would take the bandage with him to Qatar, it is here in the hotel, but he would play in Polish colors. Were there bans from FIFA? I don't know, I don't know," Mikhnevich said.
