Carragher: "Foden has a special talent! I don't understand why Southgate didn't let him on the field"

Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has criticized England manager Gareth Southgate for failing to replace captain Phil Foden.

- If I had been told before the tournament that Phil Foden would play 19 minutes in two games, I would have thought he was injured. When I was asked to name my starting line-up for the match against Iran, Phil Foden was there. The more I studied the starting line-up, the more difficult it was to leave him out of the starting eleven. Phil has a special talent.

Talk to any fan who has watched the Premier League for the past three years and ask them, "Who is the most naturally gifted English player today?", and 80 percent will name Foden. The remaining 20 percent did not follow him closely enough.

It is very surprising that Gareth Southgate preferred Grealish. It's highly unlikely that Josep Guardiola would release Grealish in a similar situation, Jamie Carragher said.
