Yesterday's match of the 3rd round of the 2022 World Cup group stage between the national teams of Germany and Costa Rica (4:2) was the 19th match for the goalkeeper of the German national team Manuel Neuer in the world championships.
Thus, the 36-year-old goalkeeper set a new record in the history of world championships: none of the goalkeepers has so far managed to play such a number of world championship matches.
The previous achievement belonged to Neuer's compatriot Sepp Mayer and Brazilian Claudio Taffarel, who have 18 matches each at the world championships.
