The Uruguay national team did not reach the 1/8 finals of the 2022 World Cup after losing to Ghana with a score of 0:2. The Uruguayans could have left the group if they had scored one goal, but the referee missed a controversial penalty situation at the very end of the match, which caused the anger of the Uruguayans. Cavani kicked a VAR monitor, and Jimenez accidentally kicked a FIFA representative.

FIFA has notified the Uruguayan Football Federation that it must submit its version of events by January 9. The final decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee will be known at the end of February.

It is noted that FIFA has two options for punishing the Uruguay national team. If the organization applies clause 12.3, then the players will receive a ban on 10-15 matches of the national team, and if clause 12.4 is applied, they will not be able to play not only for the Uruguay national team, but also for their clubs - Cavani for Valencia and Jimenez for Atlético ".
