The former forward of Dynamo Kyiv and the national team of Ukraine, Roman Zozulya, spoke on the occasion of the New Year holidays in the context of the ongoing war.
"Today the world will celebrate the new year. Festive dinner. Presents. Family at the table with salads and meat. Smiles Happiness. New desires.
Almost the whole world will launch fireworks and enjoy their beautiful bursts in the sky.
Unfortunately, it is not a holiday in Ukraine this year. Not all families can gather at the festive table. Many children will not receive a gift under the Christmas tree. Instead of salutes, we now have air defense work. And the main desire of every Ukrainian is victory in the war.
We all understand at what cost we enter the new year. At the price of the lives and health of the best sons and daughters of Ukraine. At the price of the fact that not all children will see their parents, not every mother and father will wait for their child to come home...
And there are many people who now have no home...
Many Ukrainians will welcome the new year with relatives via video link. Because now they live far from each other. There will be no warm hugs and kisses. There will be no gentle touch of beloved, warm hands.
The enemy has broken our lives. He broke into our house. Broke everything he saw in front of him. But he will never break our strength, will and thirst for the life we have won for ourselves. He will not break our souls.
I don't want to wish for anything, because each of you has your own personal desire. I hope it will come true.
Just thank everyone who brings victory closer. A soldier, a doctor, a volunteer, a savior...
Don't give up. Do what you do and remember that behind every darkness comes light!
Be that light!
And be sure to tell your loved ones about how you feel. If you miss it - dial. If you love, say it more often. A low bow to you," Zozulya wrote in his Telegram channel.
