Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic and Barcelona winger Ferran Torres face long-term suspensions of between 4 and 12 matches for a brawl at the end of the Spanish league Round of 16 match, Sport.es reports.
The Catalans secured a hard-fought win at the Metropolitano, narrowly beating the Mattress Firm 1-0 in a game decided by Ousmane Dembele's winner. In stoppage time of the second half, Ferran and Stephan got into a fight in the heat of their emotions. This did not go unnoticed by referee José Luis Munuera Montero, who did not hesitate to send off both players.
The referee's post-match report reads:
1) "In the 90th minute, the player (11) Torres García Ferran was sent off for the following reason: persistently grabbing an opponent by the hair when the ball was in play, but at a distance from the episode";
2) "In the 90th minute, the player (15) Stefan Savić was sent off for the following reason: holding an opponent by the neck for a long time with an excessive force when the ball was in play, but at a distance from the episode."
Now the disciplinary commission of the Spanish Football Federation will review the episode and make a decision on the period of suspension of the participants of the incident.
