On Monday, the former Wales international announced his retirement from playing at the age of 33. Bale's last club was Los Angeles, with which he won the MLS Cup on the eve of the start of the 2022 World Cup.

Ancelotti shared a photo of Gareth Bale scoring a stunning goal against Barcelona in the 2014 Copa del Rey final on social media: "Unforgettable... Thank you Gareth Bale."

"Following the news that Gareth is retiring from professional football, Real Madrid would like to express its gratitude, admiration and commitment to a true legend of our club and world football. Gareth Bale joined Real Madrid in 2013 and defended our colors for 9 years, winning 19 trophies: 5 European Cups, 4 Club World Cups, 3 European Super Cups, 3 La Liga titles, 1 Copa del Rey and 3 Spanish Super Cups. "On an individual level, he was named the best player in the 2018 Champions League final and won the Ballon d'Or at the Club World Cup that same year," said a statement on Real Madrid's official website.
