The former forward of Dynamo Kyiv and the national team of Ukraine, Roman Zozulya, spoke about the fierce fighting for the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, which has been going on for several months.
"Bahmut. The city is a hero. City of heroes. The fortress of the spirit and indomitability of our people. A city they have been trying to capture for 9 months. 9 months of fighting. Aviation, art, rockets, street fighting.
Our soldiers stand there under constant fire. The enemy's forces exceed ours by 10 times. But that doesn't stop our heroes from holding back the city.
City of hope and faith. Cold, dark, hellish. These are the realities of modern Bakhmut. Yes, the city remains under the control of our fighters. But at what cost... One of the hottest spots in the war.
And with all this, civilians still remain there. And many of them do not agree to evacuation. They continue to live in their homes, under constant shelling, without heating, gas and electricity. They cook food on the fire, going outside. They are heroes too.
Thanks to volunteers who travel to Bakhmut almost every day with humanitarian aid, some residents have the opportunity to leave the city after all, because while bringing humanitarian aid, volunteers evacuate locals on the way back.
I'm sure that when the war is over, the battle for Bahmut will be covered in books. Movies will be made about her.
Bakhmut is unbreakable. Strong. Heroic. Painful," Zozulya wrote in his Telegram channel.
