Cavani: "The referee of the Uruguay-Ghana match should be put in prison"

The striker of "Valencia" and the Uruguay national team Edinson Cavani reacted to the possible sanctions from FIFA for his behavior after the 2022 World Cup group stage match against the Ghana national team (2:0).

The Uruguayans could not overcome the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar. Despite beating Ghana in their last game, four points were not enough to finish second as South Korea had the better goal difference. After the game with the African national team, Cavani was unhappy with the refereeing, venting his anger on the VAR monitor, which fell to the ground after punching the striker. As a result of this episode, FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Edinson.

"If they sanction me for hitting the VAR monitor, the match referee will have to go to jail. Mistakes were made on his part that with VAR and cameras can be avoided.

I agree that we should behave properly, but players are people too. Similar emotions happen on the field when you live with passion and work hard. Especially since we have faced this many times," Cavani was quoted as saying by El Pais.

We will remind that a team of referees from Germany headed by Daniel Siebert worked at the match between Uruguay and Ghana.
