Aston Villa and Leicester met in an exciting match that promised to be an exciting one. The match started with a kick as O. Watkins scored a goal for Aston Villa in the 9th minute to give the home side the lead. However, Leicester reacted quickly when J. Maddison scored in the 12th minute to equalize. The momentum seemed to change when H. Souttar scored an own goal in the 32nd minute to give Leicester the lead. The visitors then added to their score just before half time when C. Iheanacho scored in the 41st minute to make it 2–1 at half time. The mood at the stadium remained positive for Leicester fans, who had much to celebrate as Tete gave Leicester the lead in the 45th minute. As the match eluded them, Aston Villa made two substitutions at the start of the second half, replacing Coutinho and A. Moreno with J. Ramsey and L. Digne, respectively. Leicester also brought in two players and were rewarded for their efforts when C. Dewsbury-Hall scored in the 56th minute. Aston Villa then made two more substitutions, replacing B. Camara and L. Dendoncker with A. Young and M. Cash. Leicester made their third and fourth substitutions of the match in the 67th minute when C. Iheanacho and J. Maddison were substituted for G. Vardy and N. Mendy respectively. Praet then extended his lead in the 79th minute, giving the visitors a clear picture of the game. Leicester then made their fifth and final substitution when W. Christiansen replaced L. Thomas before finishing the match in a 4–2 win.
