Former Ukrainian and Italian Genoa head coach Andriy Shevchenko, who has been out of work for almost a year, has announced his readiness to return to football.

Andriy Shevchenko

"On 24 February it will be a year since the war in Ukraine. Since then everything has changed, all our lives. Including mine, although I have no right to complain excessively. All this time we were all thinking about our soldiers, helping them in any way we could, helping to save our country. I always felt obliged to help those who had left their wives and children to defend our right to freedom. We learned to live by constantly providing this kind of help.

So in all this time it would have been easy to accept any offer to continue my coaching career. My head was occupied with something else entirely. But now I am thinking about getting back to the job I love", Corriere Della Sera quotes Shevchenko as saying.

It should be recalled that Shevchenko's last job was at Italian side Genoa, which he coached from November 2021 to January 2022.
