Auxerre and Lyon met at the Stade de l'Abbaye Deschamps in a Ligue 1 match. After a tense first half, Lyon took the lead in the 36th minute thanks to a goal from M. Dembele. Soon after, Auxerre's N. Da Costa received a yellow card in the 38th minute. "Auxerre fought back, earning a penalty in the 50th minute, which was converted by J. Perrin to level the game. Three minutes later Jubal scored, putting Auxerre ahead, but they soon found themselves in their own half when their player H. Massengo received a yellow card.
Both teams made substitutions in the second half. Auxerre replaced N. Da Costa with G. Gein in the 65th minute and Lyon replaced C. Tolisso with T. Mendes in the 66th minute. After another yellow cards received by Auxerre player B. Touré and Lyon player B. Barcola, the latter was replaced in the 75th minute by A. Sarrah. Auxerre made the final changes in the 88th minute with M. Ablin and M. Niang replacing S. Dembele and G. Perrin. Auxerre ended up with a dramatic 2-1 victory, but the match ended with only four yellow cards for both teams.
In the next round, Lorient v Auxerre and Angers v Lyon are expected to face each other.
