On a sunny day at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, Girona kicked off their match against Almeria. The game started on 8 minutes when Girona's V. Castellanos scored, giving the home side a 1-0 lead. After 25 minutes, Girona scored the second goal, but it was not counted because of offside. 34 minutes into the match, Girona's forward V. Tsygankov scored the second goal, making the score 2-0. The onslaught continued after two minutes, when R. Riquelme scored from close range, making the score 3-0 in favor of Girona. Soon after, J. Hernandez scored Girona's fourth goal, and it looked like Girona would go into the break with a 4-0 lead.
Just before the break, Almería made four straight substitutions to try and use fresh strength and tactics to get back into the game. At the start of the second half, Almeria stepped up even more, trying to get back into the game. In the 59th minute, Girona player B. Garcia received a yellow card. Almeria struck back a minute later when L. Ramazzani scored, putting the visitors ahead and making the score 4-1. Girona battled back with a couple of substitutions and I. Martin quickly gave them back the lead with a goal with just under an hour to go. Shortly afterwards, K. Stuani scored Girona's sixth and final goal of the match. Almería got their second goal in the 81st minute when they managed to frustrate the home team's defence with their breakthrough. At the end of the match, Almeria's player L. Suarez received a yellow card just before the final whistle and the game ended 6-2 in favour of Girona.
