Aston Villa struggled well against Arsenal but the Gunners ended up a 4-2 winner. Brentford and Crystal Palace drew 1-1 and Fulham scored an important victory over Brighton » with the score 1:0. Chelsea were unlucky enough to concede a late-stage goal as they lost 1-0 to Southampton and Everton went on to beat Leeds 1-0. Manchester City and Nottingham Forest were to share the trophy after a 1-1 draw, while Wolves lost to the strong Bournemouth 1-0. Liverpool scored two away goals to beat Newcastle 2-0.
