Athletic and Girona met in La Liga, the match took place at the San Mámez Barrià stadium. Both teams showed a desire to dominate early in the game, as Girona was able to strike first in the 4th minute of the match, taking the lead after A. Garcia scored from a penalty. However, soon after, in the 14th minute, Athletic received a yellow card after one of its players, O. de Marcos, committed a bad attack. In the 20th minute, Girona was able to increase the score after O. de Marcos scored an own goal, much to the disappointment of the home fans. Then, in the 35th minute, J. Bercicce managed to cut the deficit to 1-2. This gave a small glimmer of hope to the home fans as they were desperate for a two goal defeat. Then, in the 45th minute, Girona got a goal from M. Vesga, increasing the score to 3-1 in favor of Girona.

Then, one of the players of the Athletic team, Y. Alvarez received a yellow card. At the beginning of the second half, both teams took the lead, trying to restore the lead. W. Simon, J. Aguirrezabala, J. Alvarez, I. Lequez, as well as R. Garcia for Athletic Cluj, and J. Hernandez, M. Gutierrez, R. Riquelme, I. Martin, B. Garcia, Valery and V. Tsygankov, Reinier for Girona came on the field as replacements. However, this did not lead to a significant change in the score. While both teams attacked slowly, they also acted stiffly in defense, receiving several yellow cards. With only a few minutes remaining, Athletic's R. Garcia took advantage of a corner kick to liven up the crowd and scored in the 89th minute in an attempt to tie the score.
