On Sunday, the Red Devils won their first trophy in six years, beating Newcastle 2-0 in the League Cup final. Erik ten Heg's team continues to compete for the Premier League title alongside Manchester City and leader Arsenal, and also participates in the FA Cup and Europa League.

"Sooner or later it had to happen, didn't it? If they spend a little bit more money, yes. That's normal, they are in the position they should normally be in. The reality is that the two teams, Liverpool and us, have done an incredible job in numbers," Guardiola was quoted as saying by Goal.

Since winning the Europa League in the 2016/17 season, Manchester United has spent £685 million on incoming transfers, while Manchester City has spent £660 million. Their total net spending is reported to be £527 million and £162 million respectively.
